Protecting Your Collection

I don’t keep a lot of terribly valuable dolls in my home, since I tend to enjoy them for awhile and then my greed gets the best of me and I end up sending them back out into the world. For this reason I have never insured my personal collection separately, relying instead on a rider to our home family insurance.

I have however, attached explicit information to each doll, concerning its mark and maker, approximate value, etc, so that in the event of my untimely death, my husband and children will know exactly what each item is and how much they should expect it to sell for. I guess I’m just paranoid, but I have heard too many stories of unscrupulous antique dealers low-balling folks who don’t know any better.

Just a suggestion to those of you with your own small to medium collections!
