Life In America

I keep talking to people, especially younger people, who have some rather strange expectations of life. They fully expect to have at least two expensive cars in their three car garage–the extra room will be needed for the boat and top of the line riding lawnmower. They figure on at least one vacation to some exotic local, yearly, if not more. Their huge home will of course be located in an exclusive area. They will have an ground pool, preferably with an entertainment area and outdoor kitchen. The homes indoor kitchen must have an industrial size refrigerator and a professional chef stove…though many of these people have no real plans to actually cook a meal. Their home should also have a media room with theater seating and a huge screen TV, surround sound, the works…

When I was a girl, I simply hoped to have my own home someday, one I could decorate and paint without getting permission from the landlord…

I wonder if there was ever another era where people had such unrealistic expectations of what life should be?
