New Arrival…Floradora Checks In

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…Poor Floradora!

This little bisque just arrived today and as you can see she has some issues. Her legs have come apart at the knees and her eyes have fallen back in her head. She has no wig. I haven’t undressed her yet, but it looks like all her parts are present.

This doll is called “Floradora”, she was made in Germany from around 1900, by a very famous doll maker named Armand Marseille. Marseille sold millions of his attractive, affordable dolls, and A. M. dolls as they are often called, are the most common, easily found bisque dolls around today. Chances are if you are a beginning doll collector your first bisque doll will be an A. M. doll.

Floradoras are easy to identify. You just look at the back of her head and you will see the inscribed words; ” Made In Germany” Floradora. There is also an A. M. So far this looks like a fairly easy fix…or could be famous last words, we’ll see.

At the last show, a couple came in and asked if I could repair their Grandma’s doll. Guess What!! She is a FloraDora. Her arms are off; her legs have disappeared in a flurry of sawdust; her head is off and the shoulder plate has a piece broken off–but it is still there. Noticed that YOUR baby has comp legs and arms; this child has leather upper arms and bisque lwer arms and hands The clothes are in pretty sad shape–very much in rags. Yes, I’m going to try to fix her up. Shall we exchange ideas and comments????
