Some People Should Be Fat

Yes, that’s an odd headline, but it got your attention.  I’ve always thought it was interesting that most of us are disgusted by fat and obese people in general, but yet no one seems to care that Santa is a regular roly-poly.  But really, could you imagine Santa on diet pills?  Instead of the jovial fat man, we’d probably have a grumpy thin guy who’s always hungry.

Other people who should be fat - genies in bottles, cupid, and people who sell baked goods.

The Issue of TV Stands

I’ve found that it’s virtually impossible to get TV stands that mimic a home’s antique look without spending a small fortune to get them.  If you’re lucky, you may find something at an auction or antique shop, but in most cases, they’re either very expensive or completely banged up.

So what about you, readers?  Any recommendations for finding good, cheap TV stands that don’t look like they came from a spaceship or Ikea store?

Antique Insurance

For most people, insurance is something fairly simple.  You buy health insurance, auto insurance, home insurance, and maybe some life insurance, and you’re set.  For those with large and valuable antique collections, though, more may be needed.  The average homeowner’s policy isn’t designed to cover valuable antiques, but you can get insurance specifically for that purpose.  If anyone reading this has experience in that area, I’d be interested to hear just how much money you should have invested in antiques before it becomes worthwhile to get separate insurance.

Vintage Red Train Case

If you enjoy unique luggage, you’ll love this bright red vintage train case.  The seller says it’s an American Tourister piece, and while it doesn’t come with its matching mates, it does have a neat skeleton key design on the front.  That’s not part of the original design, though.  It’s been added by the Etsy seller in question.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure that this particular case is a particularly efficient choice for air travel, but I suppose if you’re the type who still travels by train, it could work.

Interesting Saddles

Something tells me that the average collector of fine English saddles would not exactly be impressed by this dog saddle.  It may be great for poopie bags and treats, but it’s definitely not much to look at.  It’s nice to know that purchases support Bay area rescue centers for dogs, though.  Perhaps someone could convince them to make a few more attractive designs in the future?

Old Trophies

Until today, I had no idea that there was a market for used trophy parts, but this link would seem to indicate otherwise.  I guess those who have a lot of old football, bowling, and basketball trophies laying around could pick up a bit of spare cash by dismantling them.

Although…I kind of like the idea of a shag carpeted living room with a turntable and lots of old bowling trophies in someone else’s name.

Vintage Clown Tags

I know Christmas is over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan for next year.  These unique vintage hangtags would look great on almost any gift, especially hand-made, antique, or old-fashioned gifts.  It may not be quite right for your cousin’s Playstation 3, though.

Of course, if you don’t feel like buying these tags, you could easily make your own out of old magazines.  They don’t necessarily have to be ancient.

A Cute Etsy Find

Due to a relative lack of time these days, I’ve decided that instead of my usual posts, I’ll be doing a series of posts on some of my favorite doll finds around the web.  Today, I’ll be focusing on this antique doll jewelry box that I found on Etsy.  I’m not sure exactly how “antique” it actually is, but it definitely evokes memories of times before people worried about computers, the best diet pill, and how to pay for $50,000/year college tuitions.

I’m Back…

Well I’m finally pretty much caught up and my life has slowed to a pace I can semi-manage. The last couple of months have been really busy with family situations as well, one pretty serious accident involving my father, and then my sister up and moved to Tennessee! I also had a bout of carpel trouble in my right hand–for about two months the little bugger was tunneling like a mole hopped up on on Red Bull! At times I could barely hold a paintbrush!

Now that summer is coming to a close I’m really looking forward to dragging out the old airbrush and starting some new projects!

Last Quiet Day…

My last post was about the last quiet relaxing day I’ve had in a month! It’s been nuts around here…I’ve barely been home and when I have been home, I’ve just had time to feed the dogs, give them some loves then head for the next obligation. What time I haven’t been sleeping, eating or showering has been spent catching up paperwork for my job. Apparently the girl that was there before me did not like to bog herself down with boring old paperwork. Ugh!

My house. Well, you could eat off the floors. No literally, you could eat off the floors! It’s such a mess. Me, who prides herself on a clean abode…

Now this: have you ever heard of lipovox? Me neither, but here you go, live and learn!
